How does Body by Thermage™ work?

This FDA approved technology uses radio frequency energy to heat and stimulate the fibroblasts in the dermis while it keeps the skin surface cool. This process promotes the contraction of the existing collagen fibers and stimulates new collagen growth. The end results is tighter, firmer skin. And treatment involves a single session with no downtime.

What can I expect the day of the treatment?

Prior to your Body by Thermage™ treatment, you will receive “twilight sedation”. Twilight sedation is used during the Body by Thermage™ session to ensure the experience is pleasant and optimal results are achieved. During the session, you may experience brief sensations of heat, followed by cryogen that is delivered by the unit’s hand piece before, during and after the treatment tip makes contact with your skin.

Most patients return to their regular activities after the treatment. Some people may experience mild to moderate skin flushing, which usually subsides within an hour. There is no special care needed after treatment. However, an effective sunscreen is recommended.

What kind of results can I expect?

Body by Thermage™ is the only treatment available today that offers improvement in skin laxity on non-facial areas without surgery. Those who are interested in a more immediate or dramatic result may want to consider cosmetic surgery.

Results will vary from patient to patient. Your age, skin condition and degree of skin laxity will affect the outcome. Some of our patients see improvement within a week or so, but you should expect to see optimal improvement over a two to six month period. Before and after photos will be taken so that you can see the treatment benefits.

How long does the result last?

As with many of the new skin technologies available today, it is difficult to predict how long the improvement will last. These treatments do not stop the natural aging process.

Who are the best candidates for Body by Thermage™?

The ideal candidates are non-overweight individuals with isolated areas of loose skin on their upper arms, legs, abdomen or buttocks. These persons are usually in their late 30s, 40s and 50s and are not interested in having a cosmetic surgical procedure at this time. They have realistic expectations and understand that they will see noticeable improvement over time.
